At an indoor range, I double-plugged. I don't know if I needed to. The percussive effect of all the guns firing was more significant than any hearing issues. I could easily hear my instructor, but he was standing right next to me. Last weekend I was at an outdoor range firing simultaneously with 14 other people, sometimes rapid firing. Using the volume control of the headset, I was able to amplify the orders the range officer was barking, and I never felt like it was too loud, even without double-plugging. I wore the headset over the weekend for about 15 hours, only occasionally remove it. I never got cauliflower ear; it was always comfortable. I've been told that there's a parasitic drain on the batteries, so I always remove them when I'm not at the range.I know fit can be a very personal thing, but these fit my ears perfectly. I got both these and the Howard Leight Impacts, to compare head on. The biggest difference for me, is that I cannot quite get the Impacts to stay on my ears consistently. As I move my head around, or shoulders, they pivot and the cups lift slightly, breaking the seal. This can be quite dangerous, if you care about your hearing. Especially with high-powered rifles, you sometimes see the recoil kicking the earphones right off the person's ears. You want to make sure the fit is tight and secure. WIth the Peltor's that's exactly what I get. No fidgeting it around, to get a good seal. The ear cups don't lift off my head, as I move around or change position. I like that the Peltor's come with changeable covers too (mine came with black installed, and an extra pair of bright orange covers). Downsides of the Peltor's? The biggest is price, these cost three times as much as the Howard Leight Impact. Battery's a bit harder to change too (I had to double check the manual to be sure how to do it), and controls not quite as intuitive as the Impact. But at the end of the day, safety is the top priority, so the Peltor's are the ones I pack with me whenever I go to the range, not the Howard Leights. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is probably because of physics. I still wear ear plugs under these for long days at the range because they only cancel 20-25db, still putting me over the 140db "safe zone" with my handguns or ARs in confined areas. Muffs are decently comfortable - though I feel like I should work on a system of muffs + glasses that doesn't gouge my temples.Had a pair of these for 10 years with gel cups and loved them for all day use, then I left them at a match. Bought the new 300 series, thinking they must be better. Nope. The rigid headpiece of the 300's wouldn't keep equal pressure around my ear, digging in at the bottom and leaving a gap at the top of the ear, and they weren't comfortable. Returned and bought these again... they were really comfortable, and amplified better so I can put in ear plugs and ramp up the sound when shooting indoors. The Peltor Tactical Sport ear muffs are very comfortable and perform well with a couple upgrades. I prefer them with out the Gel cups. They improve fit, noise reduction and comparability. I also added a USTS Head band. The slim profile makes it easier for cheek weld but cost you some noise reduction. If you go to an indoor range you will need to double up with ear plugs. The amplification is better than any I have tried and they work great outdoors when you need to hear conversation or surrounding noise. If you are focused on noise reduction only save your money and buy the Howard Leights.I really did not want to spend over a hundred dollars for a Range Headset, but WOW do these work great. That are well worth the cost to purchase. I can actually hear around me while shooting. The gun shots are reduced in volume as expected. The Tactical Sport Headset is comfortable and not to hot, even in the Arizona heat. I purchased the headset wire for listening to music/phone, which is assume. Listening to music while shooting, and still being able to hear events around me! Great purchase.great product so far. Love the amplified sounds yet it blocks the gun shots pretty good.Bought it for a training class. It worked great. I cold tun up the volume to hear the wind blow and it would still block out the gun fire. Its important to hear instructors while a class (15 people) is shooting. That's why you are paying the instructors. The absolute best noise cancelling / hearing protection you can ever own. I work in film and TV doing practical spfx. On my current show I'm shooting sweenie guns as cast/stunts are have MAJOR close quarters gun fights. The the concussive blows from the gunfire washing over me as I concentrate and do my job is mandatory to pull off the illusion of reality. These head phones deaden all gunfire to 20 db and you can hear all talking and other none sharp / deafening sounds. You can adjust volume up or down to your preference. Ive found that if you turn up the volume you can hear every whisper as people wear face masks on set for protection. Even the ETF officer that attended set was jealous of mine. Id recommended these to anyone working in film and TV that work around loud sharp noises. Very comfortable to wear for hours. They do have a set of orange covers that are interchangeable from black. These are excellent quality firearm ear savers. The only reason i am not 5 stars across the board is that the batteries on these things do not last that long. I always turn them off and on at the range so I do not waste the battery (they have an audible power on and off voice so you know).I now have to ensure that i have spare battery in my range bag and truck - not a huge deal but i would have expected batteries to last longer (i replace them every 3 months or less with weekly use)they are thicker than a number of the competitors out there - meaning that you may hit the sides of the ears when you go low on cheeckwell on some boom sticks - just look at pics when you compare these to others you might be considering -- most people its not an issue, people who have had the issue know ...i would still recommend them highly - just keep some batteries around3M stuff is always qualityThese are very comfortable and not too heavy. The response time is pretty good as is the noise suppression performance. That said, the design of these needs to be revisited. To replace the battery on these, you must remove the entire side covering which is easy to do. the wires for the speaker and microphone on that side, however, are in a very shallow channel and not well protected, resulting in a crimping of the cables (This was noticed on a the brand new set right out of the box). 2-3 battery changes and I guarantee a loss of functionality on that side. For now, I am sticking with the Sountraps. It works well! My hearing is damaged. These do a great job at the range and in the duck blind. I can wear them all day! I do use foam ear plugs under these muffs for prolonged fire sessions at the range just because my hearing is already damaged. They work great during duck fire. The volume control is a bit tricky with cold hands. The low battery warning I find loud. Scared the hell out of me the first time out in the hunting blind! I have no problem shouldering a gun with them on. I read somewhere that installing the batteries was tricky. Not sure that person owns a tv remote control? Over very happy with the product!????This headset ticks all the boxes for me, except maybe on price. The hearing protection is excellent and voices come through clearly without any perceptible delay. I find them comfortable for use up to an hour. The complaint about battery changing isn’t an issue for me, I don’t have to change it often and it’s not that bad.
